The latest movie, 13 Bombs in Jakarta, directed by Angga Dwimas Sasongko, adapts a true story for the big screen. Indotech affiliate Indodax produces the box office movie, which narrates the story of the bombings in Jakarta. The story draws inspiration from the true events that involved Oscar Darmawan and William Sutanto, the founder and co-founder of Indodax.
The plot of 13 Bombs in Jakarta begins with the threat of a terrorist named Arok, who plans to launch attacks at several strategic points in Jakarta. Discovering intruders heightens the tension. Oscar and William, the founders of the Indonesian crypto exchange, find themselves unexpectedly trapped in the situation. The only way to stop this terrorist attack is to meet Arok’s demands, which include a ransom in Bitcoin.
The film, featuring an action-espionage genre, includes intense shooting scenes and car chases, all produced on a large scale. It provides a realistic impression through the use of real weapons, blank bullets, and actual car explosions carried out on location. 13 Bombs in Jakarta is one of the Indonesian action films that has become a box office hit, attracting more than one million viewers.
The bombing of a shopping center in Tangerang in 2015, in which the perpetrators demanded a Bitcoin ransom, inspired this story. Inspector General of Police Rachmad Wibowo, who, in 2015, headed the IT/Cyber Crime Sub-Directorate at the Directorate of Special Economic Crimes of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, confirmed this. Together with his team, he investigated the bomb threat and collaborated with Oscar Darmawan, CEO of Indodax.
Angga Dwimas Sasongko was interested in bringing this story to the big screen because the background of extortion and terrorism provided a complex and compelling dimension to explore in the movie. According to Oscar Darmawan, this film also reflects Indodax’s commitment to educating the broader community about crypto assets.
The 13 Bombs in Jakarta are now available in cinemas throughout Indonesia as of December 28, 2023.
